Big Home Run, Big Knot
Reed had a fantastic game a few days ago. He hit a home run!! I actually got a video of it. He was so proud. However, while sitting in the dugout taking in the glory of the success, a child on his team turned to him, lifted his bat over the top of his head and swung the bat down right on top of Reed's head. I saw it happen and could not believe my eyes. I ran onto the field and into the dugout to help Reed. A knot was already forming on top of his cute little fuzzy head. I happened to have some of Millie's popcorn in my hand so I asked him if he wanted some. I figured it was super serious, he would refuse the popcorn. Much to my relief, he stopped crying and took the popcorn. I took Reed and we walked up to another field where my sister was watching Jacob play. I told Laura what happened and she looked at him. She noticed his eyes were starting to turn black and blue and that was when we decided we needed to call his Doctor. The Doctor told us to go to the emergency room. I'm so glad Laura and Joe were there because Laura went Reed and I and Joe took Millie to my mom's house.
After waiting for 3 hours in the ER, someone finally came in, shined a light in his eyes and declared him ok. I'm sure that will cost at least $1000, if not more, but better safe than sorry. But now I know that unless they are knocked out, throw up or act unusual there is no reason to take them to the hospital. Hopefully that doesn't happen again but it's good to be prepared.
Reed did love the hospital. He said it was great because he got to eat in bed and got his own remote.
