Our family wasn't going to take a vacation this summer. Summer's only a little over 6 weeks so who has time for that anyway? We have some serious financial goals set and it just wasn't in our plan. But when we found out Millie's Fusion Softball Team qualified for the NSA World Series in Clearwater, FL we couldn't say no.
Her coach arranged some serious fancy travel for the team, they were going down on his family's bus. By bus, I mean large personal travel coach, puts RV's to shame. The team was leaving on Monday, Rick was driving down on his motorcycle so he could camp and bike and Reed, Mom and I rented a car and left on Sunday morning. My kids have always traveled well without any electronics, however, with Reed in the backseat without Millie, I figured that probably wouldn't happen this time. He was pretty excited about me letting him use the iPod and that's all it took.
We didn't have any intention to drive all the way to Clearwater in one day. We picked the rental up in Louisville at 8am (it was pouring down rain, a nice precursor to our whole trip) and it took us a bit to get it loaded. We finally got out of the airport with the car around 8:45. We made it to Perry, GA before we stopped for the night. We wanted to give Reed time to swim at the pool and have some fun before we went to bed.
We didn't do swim lessons for him this year but he picked right back up on what he had learned last year. He was really enjoying it and trying hard to get his breathing correct. I'll have to look into some more lessons for him when our schedule allows. He's currently playing football for Southern Indiana Catholic and getting ready to run cross country so finding time for anything more is tight.
