Glad to see you March. Sitting here on yet another canceled day of school due to ice and snow. If I am correct that puts us at 7 days we have to make up. Boo. But with our crazy schedule, today's snow day has been put to good use. Our weekends are jammed packed with sports and now that I am working, I need a snow day once in awhile to get things caught up around the house. For example...our weekend...
...started bright and early with Rick and Reed dropping the mower off to get fixed then meeting us at a 9am basketball game for Millie at St. Paul's in Sellersburg. Her biggest fans were present and accounted for!
We played the same school last week but a different team. Based on what I saw, St. Paul did NOT attempt to make 2 balanced teams. They have a very obvious A team and B team. Apparently we played the A team last week and the B team this week. Our girls had a great game, everyone one of them scored which I love to see. I don't like to see us beat a team quite as bad as we did but other than us just stopping, there was nothing we could do about it. Our coaches were telling the girls to slow down, pass the ball around and back off a bit on defense but there's only so much you can do. The coach even sat Millie out 2 quarters and she still had 14 points.
Being a bit silly and proud of herself. Love to see a smile on her face once in a while. She usually looks so serious out there.
The coach was explaining that we were way ahead. His game plan is usually...get Millie the ball, let Millie shoot but things were up and he changed the plan. Please slow down and be sure to pass to the other girls. Millie did great at listening. She made sure to pass the ball and everyone ended up scoring even though I think at that point, they had all already scored.
After the game, we made a stop at Dairy Queen for a celebration blizzard (yes, at 10am). Then to Tractor Supply to get the kids some rubber boots for walking the dog. Oh, I don't think I have even mentioned the dog yet, we got a dog. Rick went back home to cut up some trees and the kids and I headed to a friends house to help with an adoption fundraiser she is doing. It was a much needed peaceful and relaxing break in the day. Then to her softball coaches barn in Indiana for batting practice. No photos of that. We had to leave there early to go back to Louisville for pitching lessons.
She is really improving on her pitching. I find it very ironic that we are even doing pitching lessons since the one thing I had always said was that I didn't care where she played but I didn't want her to pitch or catch. Well, she is now the catcher and her coach wants her in pitching lessons so here we are. She has had about 6 lessons and she is now doing the full pitch and throwing strikes about every 4th pitch.
Rick met us at pitching lessons so he could watch then it was back to Indiana for supper out and home at 7:30.
Sunday morning was a pancake breakfast before 10:30 mass where they were recognizing all the student athletes. Millie thought this was neat because she got to sit with her friends and wear her jersey to church. Then it was home to work on the science fair project before softball practice at 3. Millie did great at practice. This is her first time hitting off a live pitcher and she was only 1 of 2 girls that got a few hits. We left practice just as the ice started and made it home for the rest of what was left of our weekend.
Now starting this week, Reed will have his baseball practices added in but thankfully basketball is over in 2 weeks so it will be an all baseball/softball schedule for us. Well, for a about a month at least, until tennis and swimming begin. Have I mentioned before how thankful I am for my mom's help and Rick's new job!
