Lanesville Slugfest

The Lanesville tourney ended with Floyd Knobs as Runner-up. North Harrison ended up beating us by 4 runs. They really improved from when we played them earlier in the week. On top of their well played game, our girls were dead tired. We had to play a game 2 hours prior to the championship game and it was super hot. There was not time to go home in between games so the team hung out at a local park. It was still hot. We started the championship game down and tired. The North Harrison girls were fresh and ready to play. Poor Millie got a headache after the first game and I could tell she was miserable. Her and Reed both fell asleep as soon as we got in the car to go home. She woke up and cried the rest of the way home. I felt so bad for her. We were out there for over 9 hours and I was exhausted, I can only imagine how the girls felt.

The girls learned a lot playing this tourney so hopefully they will be even better when they begin the District playoffs in a few days.

Go Floyd Knobs!

Our All Star season could not be starting out much better than it has. We have played two games now in a local town tourney so we can get a little practice before Districts start next week. 

We played our first game against North Harrison and won 13-7. Tonight we played Henryville and won 33-1.  Millie hit  her first ever home run in the first inning. After her, 4 more girls on her team also hit home runs before the game ended. The girls on our team are  fantastic batters. From what I've seen so far, I believe we have a good shot at winning this Lanesville Tourney. That would be a great feeling for the girls going into District next week. 

Of course Millie's victory deserved a stop for some ice cream. I think her finger nails are possibly what brought us our win. 

Home Run Hitter Up To Bat!

I can't believe I forgot to post a video of Reed's first Home Run. It was right after this that he sat down in the dugout, took his helmet off then had a punk teammate whack him over the head with a baseball bat which landed him in the Emergency Room.

One Fish Two Fish

I finally got my kids in some swim lessons. Millie had some when she was 4 in Knoxville but Reed has never had any. They took them at Highland Hills and I was really impressed with the program overall.

Reed was going under constantly, he was fearless. He was even the only one in his class that jumped off the diving board with no hesitation. He loved it!

Millie improved a lot as well. She is now nose plug free which was my main goal and she is swimming pretty comfortably freestyle. Her backstroke is not as strong but she's continuing to work on that.

Season's End

Millie's career as a Pirate is officially over. They lost their second round game this week. The team that beat them was the regular season champs and they ended up winning the championship game as well. The Pirates made them work for it though, they played great.

I wish I could say softball was over for the summer but it's not. Millie was asked to play on the Floyd Knobs All Star Team. She has her first practice today. I was really torn about her playing...her eagerness to play vs my willingness to be over committed for the summer. Well, she was asked to play on the Westfield All Stars team last year but she couldn't because we were moving. She was really upset about this. There was no way I could not give her the opportunity to play this year. Especially when one of the coaches said she was an obvious choice and was voted on unanimously. I knew she was a great player but it's always good to hear things like that. So adding this commitment in has really strapped us time-wise this summer for some other things we were wanting to do, like visit some of our old neighbors and friends in Knoxville, Westfield and Evansville. I'm sure we will still find time to make it to Westfield and Evansville but we may have to put Knoxville off. It has also encroached on her tennis playing which started last week. She was not able to compete in a few tournaments she had planned due to softball. Oh, and did I mention they are also taking swim lessons...

The End For The Marlins

Reed had his first tournament game today. His team did great but ended up falling a few points short, I don't even know the final score.



Reed has decided he loves to be catcher. He's darn good at it too. Every time the batter hits he throws him helmet off and gets ready at the plate.



He was happy though, he got a cookie and a medal so that's all that really matters. His swim lessons start tomorrow so he good to go.

First Round Winners!

Millie had her first tournament game today. They went into the tournament as the second to last team so they played the #2 team. They have not had a great season but they got it together today and won 16-7. Their biggest problem has been batting. Millie has been batting great, she only struck out 1 time all season but most of the girls struggled. Not today. They were all hitting the ball. If they keep that up the next two games we may have a great comeback story on our hands. Hopefully they keep it up.

Mr. Strawberry Shortcake...Well, Almost

I only signed him up for the Mr. Strawberry Shortcake contest for our Church's Strawberry Festival picnic because they really needed boys. And well, he's darn cute.



He was clearly the obvious choice. His interview went something like this...

Interviewer - "Hello Reed, I sure like your choice of clothes. Are you a sports fan?"
Reed - "Yes, I am!"
I - "Do you like UK?"
R - "No!"
I - "Do you like UofL?"
R - "No!"
I - "Reed, What's your favorite team?"
R - "The Colts!"

This got a good laugh. He probably didn't even know he had IU clothes on. They were all hand me downs from Jacob. I'm actually surprised he didn't yell out Tennessee, that could have been bad here in IU country. I think The Colts was an acceptable answer.



Although he was the clear choice as the winner (I'm not partial at all) they choose the winner by drawing a name out of a hat. The sorting hat choose another boy. A boy who refused to wear the crown "because it will mess up my hair". Please, what kind of Mr. Shortcake is that. I heard Reed say "well I'll wear it!" Sorry Bud, it doesn't work that way.

Run for the Berries - Millie's First 5K

Ever since Millie's great cross country season last year, she has been talking about the upcoming season. She wanted to train well before the season started because her goal this year is to be her team's top runner. Their top runner from last year moved on to middle school so she is ready to take her place. I say good for her! This girl has a crazy determination to win and dominate that I just can not relate to. This has clearly not come from my side of the family.



Her school meets are only 1 mile but that would not do for her, she wanted to do a 5K because she said that would make her 1 mile course seem easy. She does have a point.



Our church has an annual picnic called the Strawberry Festival and part of it is a 5K called the Run for the Berries.



She was certain she would win in her age group. Unfortunately, the youngest age group was 14 and under. So considering she was only 7, she still had to compete against girls up to the age of 14. Her time ended up being 33:49. I was watching the girls as they came by me at the finish line trying to guess their ages to figure out what place Millie would be. There were 2 girls I was pretty sure were under 14 but 2 more I couldn't tell. Well, after we waited around for the results, it turned out she came in 4th. But they were 11 and 12 year olds that beat her. They were probably on a middle school cross country team. So I consider her the winner of the 10 and under group which I created myself. Let's face it, they should have had one and I may have to suggest that for next year.







There's my mom finishing. She walked it and finished first in her age group. I think she's throwing up gang signs. And they wonder why Reed went through a stage of doing that. I think I figured it out.



Millie did enjoy her fresh strawberry smoothie after she finished!

Reed's Last Day of PreK

My mom, Rick, Millie, Jacob and I all got to attend Reed's PreK graduation ceremony. He had a blast goofing around with all of his buddies. He will start Kindergarten in the fall at the same school Millie and Jacob go to. This will be Jacob's last year there so for one year we will have all three of them at one school.

Last Day of Second Grade

Another school year has come and gone but the good thing is Millie will actually be returning to the same school next year!! This hasn't happened since she was in preschool. We are all very excited about this. I think me even more than her. I was getting tired of having to learn new things, meet new people, figure out the lay of the land. I'm also really looking forward to not moving this summer and actually being able to enjoy our summer break. That hasn't happened since Millie has started school.

Knobs Fest 5 Miler

Millie participated in her first organized bike ride a few weeks ago for the Knobs Fest.



She did the 5 mile ride with Rick and my mom.



At the start she lined up with a few girls close to her age. Her gear and bike were not even comparable to the other kiddos. It just made me think of this photo...





Millie did great and finished first even though it wasn't a race. But let's face it, to her, everything is a race.



My mom did great too and finished next behind Millie and Rick. The next riders weren't seen again for another 20 minutes. Millie said it was way too easy and next year she is doing the 16 mile route. Maybe next year I may join them...
