Happy Earth Day

I apologize to any of my granola eating friends out there but I must have a weed free lawn. My 1 1/2 gallon hand sprayer used to get the job done at all my previous homes but for this house we had to bring out the big guns. Thanks Dad for helping!

Miss Crafty

Millie has gone totally crafty on me. She loved the potholder weaving even more than I thought she would. I tried to find a different type craft that would not produce so many of the same things. We have entered the world of friendship bracelets. I never made these as a child so I had to learn first. I'm ok with Millie making as many of these as she wants because she can give them to her friends. She is making her first one in her school colors and wants to give it to her teacher.

My Helper

Our house needed a lot of landscaping maintenance. We didn't get to it last summer after moving in but we are tackling it now. We have probably removed about 30-40 bushes. Trimmed lots more. And now it's mulch time. Good thing I have good help.

Millie's Schedule

I love that Millie kicks so much butt when it comes to...well...everything. Hey, this is my blog about my kids, I can brag if I want. But this past week her accomplishments were killing me as far as our schedule. Saturday was First Communion rehearsal along with a baseball and softball game. Sunday was the actual First Communion followed by party. Monday was school, piano lessons, a recognition from the school board for her awesome Science Fair Project followed by a softball game. Tuesday was a reception at the public library where she was chosen to display her art in the Art Show and that was followed by a softball game. I really try to not over schedule the kids and myself but sometimes things come up that you can't help and your life turns crazy. Fortunately my mom took Reed on Monday so Millie's crazy schedule was much more manageable. Thank you mom.

The following day was a dash to the Art Show at the Public Library before her softball game. She found her art teacher and was so excited to see her art on display.

A Weaving Machine

My Aunt Sharon bought Millie a neat potholder weaving kit (along with a beautiful pair of cross earrings) for her First Communion. Millie got the weaving kit out last night and we figured out how to do it. She loves it. She's already planning what colors we need to order so she can make some in her school colors and giver her teachers. She also thinks she can make a bunch and sell them. So if anyone needs a few potholders, let us know!

First Communion

Millie had her First Communion today. She was very excited! Thank goodness for my mom who came and did her hair and nails and figured out how to get that veil on. Millie wore the same veil I wore for my First Communion and the only thing I remember is it was sliding down the back of my head the entire time. Because of that veil drama when I was in second grade, I refused to wear a veil when I got married. Mom did great though (this time around) and it stayed in Millie's hair just fine.





Millie carried a Rosary from my Grandma Owen and had Father Day bless it after the rehearsal.



They did a practice yesterday where they could taste the unblessed bread and wine and learn what they were supposed to do during mass.



Millie practiced what she had to say. She did great and was so brave! She has been so shy the past few years (who can blame her, we kept moving and she had to keep being the new kid) but I think she is regaining that confidence she had when we lived in Knoxville.

Thank you to everyone that came and shared this very special day with her. I am sure it will be a day she will always remember and sharing it with so many special people made it even better.

Play Ball!

Opening day at the ball park was a busy day. Millie played at 12:30 and Reed played at 4:00. I don't have any photos of Millie's game because I was the dugout mom but I'll get some another game. She did great but her team lost 17-7. She was not happy. Up until now she has always been on the winning side...basketball, softball, cross country, science fairs, art shows...she doesn't know what it is to lose. And to lose by that much was not fun. I saw this coming though. Her team has a lot of room to improve but maybe this will be good for her. You can't be on a winning team all the time and she needs to learn that sooner than later I guess.



Reed was fired up for his game. This was his very first game and he has been bugging me about it for months! Literally, since November when I signed him up he has not stopped talking about it. His league is set up where the coach pitches but if the batter misses 3 times, they get the T out to hit off of. Reed has always been a strong batter but the pressure of his first game must have got to him. He had to hit off the T the first inning but the next 2 he had great hits from the coach pitching.



His league doesn't keep score in the first part of the season so I honestly don't know if his team won or not. They looked pretty good though and stand a chance of hanging in there for some wins this season.

Science Fair

Millie's first science fair was a big success but it was a while in the making.



At first she wanted to do it. She read through a book we already had called 365 Science Experiments and she found something she wanted to do. We even did part of the experiment and she loved it. But when it was time to type up her scientific method and the process, she wanted no part of it. I said fine and we won't do it. I wasn't going to make her do it and I wasn't going to do it for her. A few weeks later she changed her mind and we were off again. She kept saying "This is so much fun! I want to do this every day!" Well she ended up putting together a nice looking project and she won first place. She was very excited and I was very proud of her for sticking with it and finishing it.



She was really eying those trophy's. She really wanted one. This was her expression after she realized she was going to get first place. So happy!
