Monroe Shine Tennis

Our third tennis tourney of the summer was a fund raiser for Floyd Central tennis and Millie has been playing in this since she was 6. This year Reed wanted to play too and they both did great! We had many rain delays but Reed thought it was fun to go out and dry the courts so he didn't mind.

Reed won several games and 1 set. He was playing against much older boys, one was Millie's age and going into 6th grade at Highland Hills. I was very proud of him and he says he wants to play more. His age group of 10s is hard to find but we will keep ours eyes open for the more opportunities for him to play.

Millie finished first place again in 12 singles. There were some girls she had played before and some she hadn't. Even though she is 10 playing up one age group in the 12s, she decided the next one she wants to play up in 14s since that the age she could be playing against when she plays middle school tennis.

Kelsey Martin Champion

Millie's second tourney of the summer was the Kelsey Martin Classic to raise money for her middle school tennis team. She same in first in singles and second in doubles. Unfortunately, her partner was not feeling well and had to stop playing in the final game.

Southen Indiana Tennis Center Kickoff Classic

Millie played her first USTA tourney of the year this weekend. She has played in a few in the past but then last year decided she didn't like tennis and didn't play any. So I didn't push her and I just asked that she play one year for her middle school this year and if she still didn't like it then I would let her give it up. Well, doesn't mother always know best? She loved it and it's all she wants to do now. We signed her up for several USTA tourneys this summer. The first one was this weekend and although she is 10, they didn't have a 10u division so she played in 12u. There were 6 girls in her bracket and she beat her first 2 opponents easily making it to the championship game. I knew the last one would give her some fight but she pulled it off winning the first 2 sets and didn't even have to play the 3rd set. I was very proud of her! Her opponent was older and played mostly in Indianapolis about every month in a tourney.

I only got photos of her second match because rain moved us indoors for the final one.

SMK Awards

I was able to start the last day of school by going to mass with Reed and then coming back later in the day for his awards.

He got the "jumping through hoops" award. His teacher said he worked very hard to catch up to the rest of his class by coming in as a new student at the start of the 4th quarter. We are very happy with St. Mary of the Knobs. We are blessed that we were able to make the financial commitment and start him there before his 2nd grade year was over.

5th Grade Awards

I took off the last day of school so I could go to both kid's awards days.

I am sure glad I went because Millie got 3 awards, 2 I didn't know about!

She got an award from her Orchestra teacher.

She got her second award from her Reading and Social Studies Teacher.

Her final award was for all A honor roll. I was very proud of her!!

First Communion

Reed had his First Communion today and the day couldn't have been more beautiful.  We are so very proud of him!  He read very well in front of everyone and was a wonderful leader for the rest of the participants.  He told me he really liked the wine when he came back!  We had a nice lunch afterward and Father Day even stopped by on his Mule!  Unfortunately it wouldn't start when it was time for him to leave so it's still parked in our driveway and my mom drove him home.

Here are some photos I took while he was practicing on Saturday.  Father did great with them explaining how it would all work and when they needed to do.

The Big Day!

Highland Hills Tennis

It's been a long time coming but Millie is finally on a tennis team. The team is 5-8 grade, no divisions between grades. She was the only 5th grader to make the team that competes in matches. Very proud of her! They have had 2 matches so far and she had played doubles both times. She has won all of her sets 6-0 easily. Very excited to see her compete finally!

ISSMA Gold

Millie competed as part of a trio in the ISMMA Solo and Ensemble competition a few weeks back.  Her group earned gold which was the highest honor.  Very proud of her and her musical abilities.

West Washington School Team Challenge Campions

Millie's travel ball team, The SuperChicks, played hard this weekend and won the School Team Challenge Tournament. They lost their first pool play game on Saturday against Mitchell but won the second against North Harrison. Rick and I missed that one because we left to watch Reed play his SMK game. They earned the number 2 seed and played 3 games on Sunday, beating Mitchell in the Championship game by 1 point. It was such a close game all 4 quarters! They fought the entire time and never gave up even when they were down by 6 at one point.
