Memorial Day Weekend...What Didn't We Do?

This may have been one of our busiest weekends in a long time. We left for Indiana on Friday morning. Since we had all day to get there, we decided to stop at the Horse Park in Lexington, KY. I have been there several times but we have never taken Millie. It was a beautiful day and Millie and Reed both enjoyed seeing, touching and riding the horses.

Rick could hardly hang on to Reed when he noticed a horse because he would try to jump out of Rick's arms. Millie was a little more cautious but did end up petting one and had a great time riding on the pony.

After the horse park, we made it to Floyd Knobs but not before stopping in Clarksville and getting a wedding dress for Millie. More to come on that in August. Reed had a blast at mom's house in the tree swing but he did not know what to think when Rick climbed to the top while he was swinging.

We all kept busy helping my dad plant corn. Well, maybe we played in the buggy while he planted corn. He did get it all done and this is the first year he was able to try out his new tractor for planting time. His health was not good enough last year to plant any crops but he did plant a little this year.


While dad was planting, Millie, TJ and Haley played in the creek while poor Reed just had to watch from the sidelines.


Saturday was a pretty important event for our area which even tops Derby weekend! Well, maybe not but it is close...the Starlight Strawberry Festival. This is put on by St. John's Church which is where my mom and dad were married and where my Grandma and most of my mom's family still attend. Here is Grandma hard at work stemming berries at the festival.

Millie was more than willing to make her own strawberry shortcake and dive right in. Man I love strawberry shortcake!


My sister and her family joined us later and took Millie to some of the rides while my mom and I hung with Reed. This is what Millie and Jacob looked like when she was brought back to me.

Even though this is where the photos end, that was not the end of the fun. Millie went hiking with Rick and his family that night while I went to a cookout at my sister's house with Reed. Sunday my sister went with me to Indy for a friend's baby shower. Monday morning we left bright and early and made it back to TN in time to take the kids swimming at the Y.

It was a wonderful weekend and I was blessed to get to spend it with such a great family.
