Rick and I rushed back (1 1/2 hour drive) from Millie's tourney in Columbus after her second game to watch Reed's first round tourney game in Floyd Knobs. His games are 3 innings, three strikes brings the T then 3 misses you are out. Runners can get out and have to go back to the dugout but three outs does not end the inning. Everyone bats. So it was very odd that after 3 innings, we were tied with the Rockies. Reed was not doing his best but he was doing very well. He made a few very important outs and he made the last out that kept the last runner from scoring which kept the game tied. They tied again after the 4th inning. At that point, the head ump came over and said if they tied in the 5th inning, they would flip a coin to determine the winning team. What!?! Parents were not happy about that. These boys had played hard and neither team wanted to see the game decided on a coin toss after 5 innings. Our team was visitor and scored 5 runs in the 5th inning. So no matter what happened we didn't want the other team to score 5. They could do more or less but we didn't want to see a tie. We were all happy when the 6th runner for the Rockies crossed the plate so the game ended with a legitimate winner. Rick ran out fast to get back to Columbus for the rest of Millie's games.
My mom and I took Reed to Berry Twist for a hard earned ice cream celebration after the game. When we were talking about how it went and mentioned he didn't win, he got mad. He said he did to win because he got a medal. Ok buddy, what ever you say. Why burst his bubble?
